Evervinum at Fenavin Contact / Evervinum en Fenavin Contact

As usual, we attended FENAVIN on tuesday and wednesday, but this time it was a new kind of show, more focused on business: small booths where buyers and sellers could make business quickly. Many visitors from abroad, from other European countries, Asia and USA.

There were about 200 wineries from different DOPs, but less than at the great FENAVIN last year, especially from Castilla-La Mancha. Again the tasting room upstairs was the best. There you could taste almost all the wines of the participant wineries.

I had the opportunity of knowing nearly 200 wines that I will be able to offer to my customers at my tastings as well as finding out the new market trends. The second day open discussions were very interesting, especially the discussion about worlwide market for Spanish wines.

The second floor wine room displayed bottles for tasting from all participant wineries sorted out by its kind: red, white, rossé, sparkling, ecological. It opened only in the morning so in the afternoon you could address the specific winery booth in the main room to make business.

The show had the support of the regional administration so there was a complete media coverage. I had the opportunity to change impressions with a journalist who belonged to the provincial council press staff. The interview appeared in the regional newspapers and in the Fenavin contact web.

To the next year, when I hope to revisit FENAVIN

Amber yellow colour. Glossy. On nose it is complex and greedy, with aromas from syrup of peach to quince.

On mouth it is warm, wide, full-bodied and with an exquisite acidity. Delicious taste of baked apple, dried peach, vanilla and toffee. Wine with a strong retro-olfactory and a persistent aftertaste.

Color amarillo ámbar. Brillante.

Príncipe de Viana is a late harvest wine, an uncommon wine for Spain. The harvest year is 2012. Made only with chardonnay, it is a naturally sweet wine.

Deep cherry colour with violet rim. On nose it displays strong, enveloping aromas of the merlot. Balsamic memories of pepper and pine resin.

On mouth it shows a nice acidity with an easy and fresh passage. Velvety like the merlot with smooth tannins, it brings to our mouth very aromatic memories like blackberry and cassis.

It is a young wine, with only three months in barrel.

As usual in Evervinum tastings, we started with a presentation explaining the main concepts about the tasting and the wine world.

The first wine was an albariño, Santiago Roma, from Santiago Roma Winery (Rías Baixas DOP). It is a safe choice. Fresh, creamy, with an unusual citric breadth, golden and glossy yellow colour. A special guest, with a very great sense of smell, remarked its aroma of fresh cut grass.

We paired it with a salad of corn salad and goat cheese with cane syrup. Delicious!!!

¡¡Delicioso!!

The second wine was a red one: Finca El Espartal from Vega del Castillo Winery (Navarra DOP). Made only with merlot variety, it is a fresh wine, with a good acidity, perfect for not very elaborate dishes.

We paired it with Pumpkin style of Lecrin Valley with pieces of toast and quail eggs. A dish praised by all the guests.

The third wine was a red wine with aging, Carrascas tinto, from Carrascas Winery (Tierra de Castilla IGP). It shows aromas of liquor cherry and smooth roast.

The dish chosen for the pairing was loin with bitter sauce of yogurt, ham chips and baked potatoes. White meat, ideal for a not very aged wine.

Last but not least, the dessert: baked fruit with sweet milk cream. Light dessert to finish a well-balanced meal. The wine: Príncipe de Viana from Príncipe de Viana Winery (Navarra DOP), a last harvest wine made with chardonnay variety. With an appealing amber yellow colour and over ripe fruit like quince. The group embraced this wine with enthusiasm.

First of all, a short introduction using a powerpoint format to the main concepts of the wine and the tasting. Our guests asked so many questions than we kidded saying that the theory was good, but the wines and the meal was better :-)

We began with a red young wine, Honoro Vera from Ateca Winery (DOP Calatayud). It is a safe bet. An easy red for starting a meal or for to take "tapas". You can see the tasting note here:

Nice starter for a nice afternoon. Agradable entrante para una agradable tarde.

The second wine was a white one, from DOP Rías Baixas. We will not give up recommending this excellent albariño made with the best dedication by Santiago Roma, undoubtedly a different winemaker for a particular wine.

In this occasion the dish was a vegetable pudding in sherry tomato cream. Light and tasty.

Ligero y apetitoso.

The third wine was Carrascas, a red one with 7 months aging. Despite of the year of harvest, 2012, still retained a fantastic colour and good fruity memories mixed with an enveloping taste of chocolate noir.
