After the yesterday's snowfall and before the tomorrow's one, a sunny window today for visiting one of the more honest wine projects in Granada. Close to the snowy peaks of Sierra Nevada, in the plain of Guadix, the Al Zagal Winery, where José Olea, the owner, welcome us to show us the winery and, what is much more important, to share with us his sensible and optimistic ideas about the wine.

Junto a las cumbres blancas de Sierra Nevada, en la llanura de Guadix, la Bodega Al Zagal, donde José Olea, su propietario, nos recibe para enseñarnos la bodega y, lo que es mucho más importante, para compartir con nosotros sus sensatas ideas sobre el vino llenas de optimismo.

Sin embargo, una bodega no es solo el soporte sino el proyecto y José Olea tiene visión de futuro. Sabe adonde quiere ir y la forma de lograr la meta. José told us the present and the future of the winery. María asked him about the making of their wines, the grape varieties and their performance... After that, we could taste the wines outside, taking advantage of the warm sun beams. A surprising young red and the quality of the new vintage of merlot as well as the reserva wine, nice coupage. Above all the amazing white made with sauvignon blanc, recently awarded with a Catavinum gold medal.
José nos habló del presente y del futuro de la bodega. María le preguntó muchas cuestiones sobre la elaboración de sus vinos, las variedades de uva y su comportamiento... Después, pudimos catar los vinos en el exterior, aprovechando los cálidos rayos del sol. Un sorprendente tinto joven y la cualidad de la nueva añada de merlot además del reserva de estupendo coupage. Y sobre todo el asombroso blanco elaborado con sauvignon blanc, que ha obtenido recientemente una madalla de oro Catavinum.
