Awards ceremony of Young wine Contest of Padul / Ceremonia de entrega de los premios al vino Joven de Padul

The last saturday the awards ceremony of Young wine Contest of Padul took place. After the show of the previous weekend, the Wine Association of Padul gave the awards to the winners. 

El pasado sábado tuvo lugar la ceremonia de entrega de premios del Certamen de vino joven de Padul. Después de la feria del fin de semana anterior, la Asociación Vitivinícola de Padul entregó los premios a los ganadores.

In a touching ceremony, the Chairman D. Nicolás gave a nice speech and the Major of Padul and other members of the Association gave the awards to the following winners:

New tastings at Hipercor, Granada / Nuevas catas en Hipercor, Granada

Once more Hipercor Stores offer their customers a new opportunity to taste good wines from Granada and Spain. Kindly hosted by Alfonso Baz, the manager of the supermarket, and the rest of the staff, the customers could listen to the explanations of the winemakers and wineproducers and taste the range of each winery. They were given a bottle as a gift.

Una vez más los grandes almacenes Hipercor ofrecen a sus clientes una nueva oportunidad de catar buenos vinos de Granada y España. Amablemente recibidos por Alfonso Baz, el gerente del hipermercado y el resto del personal, los clientes pudieron escuchar las explicaciones de los enólogos y bodegueros, así como probar la gama de cada bodega, siendo obsequiados con una botella de la misma.

XVIII Young Wine Contest (Padul) / XVIII Certamen de Vino Joven (Padul)

The last sunday took place the XVIII Young Wine Contest within the food and agriculture show in Padul. 

El pasado domingo tuvo lugar el XVIII Certamen de Vino Joven dentro de la feria agroalimentaria de esta localidad. 

On the last day of the show, The Viticulture Association of Padul held the contest with a jury formed by six members, all of them winemakers, small wine producers, wine lovers who do not belong to the region and María Córdoba, kindly invited as sommelier this year.

En el último día de la feria, la Asociación Vitivinícola del Padul celebró el certamen con un jurado formado por seis miembros, todos ellos pequeños bodegueros, productores de vino, aficionados al vino, no pertenecientes a la comarca y María Córdoba, que recibió una amable invitación como sumiller este año.

There were three categories: white, rossé and red for a total of about 35 wines. Previously, several members of the Association had made a shortlist. There were more red and rossé wines than whites. The score went up 100 points.

Se establecieron tres categorías: blanco, rosado y tinto para un total de aproximadamente 35 vinos. Previamente, varios miembros de la Asociación habían realizado una preselección. Había más vinos tintos y rosados que blancos. La puntuación se hacía sobre 100 puntos.

After more than two hours, the scores were added and the winners were known for each type of wine. Nice collaborative job that is useful to support the region wines. The Association is making great efforts to improve the quality of their wines.

Después de más de dos horas, se sumaron las puntuaciones y se conocieron los ganadores para cada tipo de vino. Un bonito trabajo colaborativo que sirve para apoyar los vinos de la comarca. La Asociación está haciendo grandes esfuerzos para mejorar la calidad de sus vinos.

After that, there was time to chat and meet the persons behind the contest, hosted by Águeda and Pedro, lovely friends and wine lovers.

Después de eso hubo tiempo para charlar y conocer a las personas que había detrás del certamen, acompañados por Águeda y Pedro, un encanto de amigos y amantes del vino.

Many people attended this popular show. We could meet the producers of Nazarí handmade beer, nice and talkative persons who introduced us their products. We want remark their new fruit beer made with custard apple. Different and promising!!

Asistió mucha gente a esta feria tan popular. Pudimos conocer a los productores de la cerveza artesana Nazarí, de amable y estupenda conversación, quienes nos presentaron sus productos. Queremos subrayar su nueva cerveza afrutada elaborada con chirimoya. Diferente y prometedora!!!

They kindly offered us all their brands to taste. Beyond any doubt, quality beer from the Alpujarra made without carbonic addition, using only handmade methods. And they also invited us to visit the facilities.

Amablemente nos ofrecieron toda la gama para catarla. Más allá de cualquier duda, una cerveza de calidad de La Alpujarra elaborada sin la adición de carbónico, usando sólo métodos artesanales. Y también nos invitaron a visitar las instalaciones. 

We also came by the Mammooth handmade beer booth from Padul. We tasted their beers, made with exotic hop after a carefully selection. We promised to visit their factory.

También nos pasamos por el stand de cervezas artesanas Mammooth de Padul. Catamos sus cervezas, elaboradas con lúpulos exóticos después de una cuidadosa selección. Prometimos visitar su fábrica.

We could not taste the Arpia whisky, made with cinnamon by Liber Distillery in Padul due to the great attendance of people. For a next occasion.

No pudimos catar el whisky Arpía, elaborado con canela por la destilería Liber en Padul debido a la gran afluencia de gente. En una próxima ocasión.

The next saturday the Association will present the awards for the winners. We will be there again and you will be able to read about it here as usual.

El próximo sábado la Asociación entregará los premios a los ganadores. Estaremos allí de nuevo y podréis leer sobre ello aquí como habitualmente.

Tasting notes: Merak 2012 from Vega del Castillo winery / Notas de cata: Merak 2012 de la bodega Vega de Castillo

Red grenat colour. Medium layer. Aromas of red ripe fruit, specially plum and marasquino cherry. Notes of noticiable wood: sweet spicies like cinnamon, vanilla, clove as well toffe. 

It is a convenient wine in mouth, not rough nor astringent that is in the perfect moment to be consumed.

Color rojo granate. Capa media. Aromas de fruta roja madura, sobre todo ciruela y ciruela al marrasquino. Notas de madera marcada: especias dulces como canela, vainilla, clavo además de toffe.

Es un vino cómodo en boca, nada tánico ni astringente que está en el momento perfecto para su consumo. 

A vintage red wine from Vega del Castillo (Navarra D.O.) (12 months in barrel) made with merlot, cabernet sauvignon and tempranillo.

Raspberry red colour with violet and purple rim. 

On nose it is a fresh, extremely fruity and intensely greedy wine, that invites to drink. A great presence of kind red fruit: big strawberry and juicy ripe cherries. When we shake it memories of candies from our chilhood come, when we played with our friends and we shared our renowned "chimos candies" or that "chupa-khups" called "Kojak" due to a very popular tv series.

In mouth it is a slightly sweet wine, with a lot of fresh red fruit that can be a little dangerous: "you could not stop drinking it". Più is perfect for having a drink, for an informal meeting with friends, at the weekend, with "tapas", pasta, rice and every not ambitious meal. Summing up it is a fun wine.

En nariz es un vino fresco, extremadamente afrutado e intensamente goloso que invita a beber. Una gran presencia de frutos rojos amables: fresón y cerezas maduras jugosas. Cuando se agita nos llegan recuerdos de las golosinas de nuestra infancia, cuando jugábamos con nuestros amigos y compartíamos nuestros famosos caramelos chimos o ese chupa-chups llamado "Kojak" por una serie muy popular de televisión.

En boca es un vino ligeramente dulce, con mucha fruta fresca roja que puede ser un poco peligroso: podrías no parar de beberlo. Più es perfecto para tomar una copa, para reuniones informales con amigos, para el fin de semana, con tapas, pasta, arroz y cualquier comida sin pretensiones. Resumiendo: es un vino divertido.

New Evervinum tasting: an introduction to the wine world/ Nueva cata Evervinum: una introducción al mundo del vino

Again we met a group of twelve people who wanted to attend a professional tasting guided by María Córdoba. 4 wines 4 dishes, long time to taste, to listen to, to talk with friendly. The Evervinum success formula.

De nuevo reunimos un grupo de doce personas que querían asistir a una cata profesional dirigida por María Córdoba. 4 vinos, cuatro platos, largo tiempo para degustar, para escuchar, para charlar amigablemente. La fórmula de éxito de Evervinum.

For most of the group it was their first tasting. So María began with a touch about the wine world and specifically about the tasting stages.

Para la mayoría del grupo era su primera cata, de ahí que maría empezara con unas pinceladas sobre el mundo del vino y específicamente sobre las fases de la cata.

The wines were not excessively complex. The first one was a novelty: a slightly sweet red, Piu. It comes from Sierra de Málaga D.O. Young, fruity, greedy. We offered it with different starters for this fun wine.

Los vinos no eran excesivamente complejos. El primero era novedoso: un tinto abocado, Piu. Proviene de la D.O. Sierra de Málaga. Joven, afrutado, goloso. Lo ofrecimos con entrantes variados para este vino divertido.

The second wine was a well known white in Evervinum, that is always well accepted by our customers: Colleita de Martis, an Albariño from Santiago Roma winery. It has been recently awarded. Albariño fermented with its yeast, full-bodied and perfect fruity hints from this typical Galician variety. Santiago Roma does a really great job, a detailed work almost hanmade what produces an awesome albariño.

El segundo vino fue un blanco bien conocido en Evervinum que es siempre bien acogido por nuestros clientes: Colleita de Martis, un albariño de la bodega Santiago Roma, que ha recibido recientemente un premio. Albariño fermentado con sus lías, con cuerpo y perfectos matices afrutados de esta típica variedad gallega. Santiago Roma realiza sin duda un gran trabajo, un trabajo minucioso, casi artesanal que produce un albariño increíble.

The third wine of the day was Merak from Vega del Castillo winery (Navarra D.O.). A red one made with merlot, tempranillo and cabernet sauvignon. A wine with intense fruit compote palate.

El tercer vino del día fue Merak de la bodega Dominio de la Vega (D.O. Navarra). Un tinto elaborado con merlot, tempranillo y cabernet sauvignon. Un vino con un gusto intenso a fruta compotada.

Tasting note of Merak / Nota de cata del Merak

The last wine was a sparkling low degree wine. A simple wine that is loved by everybody with a very representative Mediterranean variety: moscatel de Alejandría. A very scented and aromatic grape, sweet, Italian moscato style.

El último vino fue un espumoso de baja graduación. Un vino sencillo que gusta a todo el mundo con una variedad mediterránea muy representativa: moscatel de Alejandría. Una uva muy perfumada y aromática, dulce, al estilo de los moscatos italianos.

The dishes were very appreciated: starters, pudding of vegetables with tomato cream, pork sirloin with greek sauce and croissants baked with wild fruits. 

Los platos fueron muy apreciados: aperitivos, budin de verdura con salsa de tomate, solomillo de cerdo en salsa griega y medias lunas horneadas con frutos del bosque.

As usual, after the wines and dishes a great number of questions and curiosities came. The guests began to chat in a lively way. The time went by... a lovely evening, one of the best tastings of Evervinum. We deeply wish more tastings like this to come...

Como habitualmente, después de los vinos y los platos, llegaron un gran número de preguntas y curiosidades. Los invitados comenzaron a charlar animadamente. El tiempo pasó... una velada encantadora, una de las mejores catas de Evervinum. Esperamos fervientemente que vengan más catas como ésta...

Tasting of Palenzuela winery at Ideal Wine Show / Cata de la bodega Palenzuela en el Salón Ideal del vino

This is the reason why this kind of shows is necessary: the Palenzuela winery, a not very well known winery from Cortes y Graena in the Guadix plateau that makes good quality wines.

Esta es la razón de la necesidad de este tipo de salones: la bodega Pelenzuela, una bodega no muy conocida de Cortes y Graena en el altiplano de Guadix que elabora vinos de buena calidad.

The first wine was a Palenga white made with an uncommon coupage: macabeo, moscatel and verdejo. Not very frequent combination, well solved by Juan Jesús Palenzuela, the winemaker, who explained his wines with the help of María.

El primer vino fue Palenga blanco elaborado con un coupage poco común: macabeo, moscatel y verdejo. Una combinación no muy frecuente bien resuelta por Juan Jesús Palenzuela, el enólogo, quien explicó sus vinos con la ayuda de María.

The young red Palenga surprisingly without barrel was astonishing: made in  2012 but still pretty alive. María kidded saying: this wine is more alive than me. 

Spilaio is a red vintage wine from 2010. A complex wine, structured and with many spicy notes. Long keeping in bottle within the winery cave. A wine to enjoy and taste with pleasure.

Spilaio es un vino tinto crianza de 2010. Un vino complejo, estructurado y con multitud de notas especiadas y una larga permanencia en botella dentro de la cueva de la bodega. Un vino para disfrutar y paladear con placer.
